CS10MD –HAND-HELD METAL DETECTOR
1. Introduction
Thank you for buying the CS10MD metal detector. Read this manual carefully before bringing it into service. The
CS10MD is a hand-held metal detector designed for leisure activities. Typical uses will include body and parcel
search for metal objects, wherever hidden metal can be detected.
2. Operation
- The CS10MD operates on one 9V standard or rechargeable battery. To install the battery, slide off the battery
cover at the bottom of the handle, attach the battery correctly to the connector, place it into its compartment and
slide the cover back on.
- Turn the unit on by setting the on/off switch to “I” – simultaneously the green LED lights up.
- You can modify the sensitivity and depth range by turning the small screw, located under the small hole at the
front side, just above the handle. You need a fine crosshead screwdriver to turn it. Turn the sensitivity adjuster
clockwise until the red LED lights up and a constant audio tone is heard. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise
until the red LED just goes out and the tone fades. Now, the detector is tuned for optimum sensitivity and range.
- Sweep the detector backwards and forwards continuously at a height of 10-30mm above the area to be scanned.
- The presence of metal will be indicated by the audio warning tone and the red light coming on. If the detector is
held still over a metal object, the detection signal will automatically fade. Therefore, it is important that the unit is
continually scanning the surface when in use.
3. Performance
The sensitivity of the detector is determined primarily by the size, shape and composition of the object to be
detected.
Typical performance figures are:
Maximum detection range
Object
Low sensitivity
Optimum sensitivity
palmtop computer
20cm
28cm
metal pen
10cm
15cm
small key
5cm
10cm
4. Headphones Socket
The detector is equipped with a headphones socket, located at the side. Headphones or an earphone can be used in
noisy work situations or in places where the audio tone should not be heard in the surrounding area.
5. Socket for Rechargeable Battery
- ONLY when using a RECHARGEABLE (e.g. nickel-cadmium) BATTERY (so NOT with ALKALINE-batteries), you
can recharge the battery by connecting the metal detector to an appropriate 9V adapter (see its specifications).
- While recharging, the unit must be turned off. If the metal detector is turned on wile connected to the adapter, it
will permanently detect the adapter wire, which is of no use.
- It takes four to six hours to fully charge the battery. The adapter socket is located next to the headphones socket.
