The VARILITE lateral thoracic supports (laterals) are configurable components designed for use with Icon™ Back Mid and
Icon™ Back Tall to help enhance lateral thoracic support.

VARILITE products should be selected, configured and prescribed by a seating professional who is experienced in seating
and positioning, and is capable of determining if the product is suitable for an individual’s specific needs. The intended use
statement alone is not sufficient to make this determination.
TO AVOID INJURY, read, understand and follow all instructions and warnings in this manual before using your VARILITE
product.
There are hazards associated with the use of wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. If you misuse your wheelchair or your
back support you can be seriously injured.
WARNINGS
• Installation, adjustment and any modification of your VARILITE lateral support should be performed only by a qualified
seating professional.
• Improper mounting can negate the positive benefits of the support and may cause bodily harm.
• Never use your VARILITE lateral support if any hardware is missing, malfunctioning, or broken. Seek qualified assistance
with any repairs or adjustments.
• Never oil the PAL Swing-away hinge. Do not use soap-based products on or around the hinge.

VARILITE PAL Lateral Thoracic Supports and Fixed Lateral Thoracic Supports are sold as each. Other tools
required but not provided are a drill and 7/64 in. (3mm) drill bit.
Materials used in the construction of VARILITE seating systems:
VARILITE does not use latex or phthalates anywhere in the construction of our products.
INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND TROUBLESHOOTING
I. Mounting the pad
A. For Frequent Washing
1.
Remove the pad cover.
2.
Determine the location of the pad bracket on the pad.
3.
Install the pad using four (4) 1/4-20x .375 screws.
4.
Replace cover.

B. For Infrequent Washing
1.
Install four (4) 1/4-20x .375 screws through the cover and into the pre-drilled holes in the pad.

II. Mounting for Assessment
1.
Adhere the 5 in. (13cm) hook strip to the back shell.
2.
Adhere the loop to the lateral shell bracket.
