Driver Installation

Windows

98SE

1. Install a 2.5" hard drive into the U256-025-R Hard Drive Enclosure.  

2. Connect the drive to the USB port on your Windows 98SE system. Insert the CD into the 

CD-ROM drive on the computer.

3. When the device is plugged in, the system will display the “Add New Hardware Wizard”

for the “USB to IDE” drive. Click “Next”.

4. Select the “Search for the best driver for your device {recommended}” option in the next 

window and click “Next”.

5. Select “Specify a location” in the next window and enter “E:\IDE Win98SE Driverrev159”

in the box below and click “Next”.

6. Windows will install the best driver for this device. The system will select 

“E:\IDEWIN~7\GENEUIDE.INF” as the driver. Click “Next”.

7. When Windows has finished installing the software for your new hardware device, click 

“Finish”.

8. Check for “USB Mass Storage Device” in “Universal Serial Bus Controllers” in your 

“Device Manager”.

The product is already supported by this operating system and does not need separate drivers. 

Macintosh

®

1. Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer and click the CD file 

“GL811Edriver_230_MAC10”.

2. After clicking on the file, “GENELQUSBIDE230” appears and copies the icon to the 

Mac desktop.

3. Click the file to start the setup of the driver, then click “Continue”.

4. Select a destination volume to install the “General USB IDE Driver Software” and click 

“Continue”. 

5. After the destination selection has been made, click “Continue Installation”.

6. Click “Install” to perform a basic installation of this software package.

7. Once the software has been successfully installed, click “Restart”.
