Engage APOD® Manufacturer’s Instructions
The Engage APOD is designed for use with a sling seat wheelchair to improve positioning and
redistribute pressure to create a safe and comfortable platform for sitting. All PostureWorks
products should beused under the supervision of a qualified healthcareprovider.
INSTALLATION
MEASURE
To work correctly, The Engage APOD
must be the same width and depth as the sling
seat wheelchair upon which it will rest
. Place the Engage APOD directly on top of the existing
sling seat so that the solid base rests between the rails of the wheelchair.
SECURE STRAPS
The Engage APOD is manufactured with a colored strap located at the rear of
the cushion. This strap helps to secure and prevent the cushion from sliding off the front of the
chair under normal use. Wrap the strap around the back of the wheelchair, fasten the buckles to
securethe strap, and tighten the strap so that it is fitted tightly to the wheelchair.
ADJUST WHEELCHAIR
If the user self propels with their lower extremities then you will
needto adjust the height of the wheelchair; this should be considered when determining the
appropriate profile. Consider using a high back reclining wheelchair for patients to
accommodate backcontours, rigid posturing and excessive weakness.
USE ANTI-TIPPERS
There should be anti-tippers on the wheelchair as the center of gravity
will be displaced posteriorly! Do not use without anti-tippers!
POSITION FEET
THE USER’S FEET MUST BE FULLY LOADED AND PROPERLY POSITIONED
to
evenly distribute weight over the back, buttocks, thighs, and feet.
CHECK USER’S PELVIS
THE USER MUST HAVE AT LEAST 90 DEGREE HIP FLEXION to use
this product.
The Engage APOD should always be fitted and monitored by a qualified
healthcare professional.
CHECK FOAM
The
Engage APOD
is made with temperature sensitive foam. A temporary
hardening of the foam may occur when the product is exposed to low temperatures.
ALLOW THE
CUSHIONTO ACCLIMATE TO ROOM TEMPERATURE BEFORE USING
; touch it to test for desired
softness prior to using. All cushions made with foam should be monitored periodically for
compression/bottomingout. If this occurs, the Engage APOD should be replaced.
