AudioSystem EWS

®

64 L/XL.

The EWS

®

64 L/XL is a sound card for the ISA bus of

the PC which uses the latest chip technology to

provide optimum harmonising with a modern BIOS

and operating system. The keyword here is “plug

and play”(PnP). Under a PnP BIOS and/or Windows

95, the sound card is automatically recognised and

set up in the system. You no longer need to worry

about IRQ s, DMA s and I/O addresses. But even

with older systems the straightforward control

software makes installation a much simpler

process. Digital recording and playback of sounds

is achieved through both the highly integrated

CODEC and the processor of the synthesizer

component. Through careful card design, it has

been possible to achieve a signal-to-noise ratio

that is unusually high for a sound card (over 93 dB

on the signal path from In-2 via the AD and DA

transformers to the Out-1). Recording and playback

can be carried out simultaneously up to a maximum

sample rate of 48 kHz at 16 bit resolution (analog)

and up to 20 bits digitally (EWS

®

64 XL only) (during

playback). This represents a far better performance

than a CD player. In theory, playback of up to 32

tracks is possible. In practice, however, the number

of tracks is limited by the speed of the ISA bus.

The synthesizer integrated in the card, with its

various sample sets for downloading into the RAM,

makes the AudioSystem EWS

®

64 L/XL an extremely

flexible top-of-the-range wave table card - which

simply means that todays games are more fun! But

this sound card, with its sample facilities, effects

processor for all audio signals, digital audio inter-

faces, second MPU-401 MIDI interface and the

additional option of a customary wavetable

daughterboard (a total of 32 MIDI channels), also

affords the musician facilities which far outstrip

previous sound cards - not to mention the 4-

channel playback facility and use of the effects

processor even with games running under DOS.

Full compatibility with all current standards and a

connection facility for two joysticks and MIDI In/Out

complete the cards hardware equipment. The 5.25”

module (EWS

®

64 XL only) supplied for installing at

the front of your PC comes with two 5-pin DIN jacks

(as well as the digital connections) so that other

MIDI devices can be directly connected. This

module also comes with a control amplifier with a

6.3 mm stereo jack bush to connect a headset. The

various sound sources processed by the EWS

®

64

L/XL can easily be controlled via a software control

panel and routed to the required outputs.
