General Description

A key component to the Control4® vision to automate, control, and provide 
entertainment throughout the home is the Sony CAV-CVS12ES Component 
Video Switcher, providing whole house High Definition video distribution.  It 
also provides serial and IR communications and easily integrates with the 
Control4 system. 

Integrating the Component Video Switcher with the Control4 system provides 
seamless video distribution for 12 zones of High Definition video throughout 
the home via a single Cat5e wire per zone.

This video switcher is part of Sony's high-performance "ES" line of premium 
AV equipment.  Designed to distribute up to twelve video sources throughout 
the home, the CAV-CVS12ES is a single-box solution that incorporates eight 
HD component video inputs (up to 1080p) and four composite video inputs 
with up-conversion for flexible device connectivity.  High definition video 
content is delivered to up to 12 zones through Cat5e wiring, which is fed into a 
component adapter (Video Balun, C4-CVB1-A) connected to the display.

If these items are missing or damaged, please contact your Control4-
authorized reseller immediately.

Installation

1   Meet all requirements defined in the "Requirements" section of this 

document and the Instruction Manual provided by Sony Corporation. 

2   Use one of the serial null-modem cables provided to connect the Sony 

video switcher to the appropriate serial port type (DB9 or Pluggable 
Terminal Block) on the Control4 controller using the instructions that follow. 

For HC-300 or Media Controller "Serial 1" and "Serial 2" Ports (Figure 2): 
Use the provided cable with DB9 female ends to connect the Sony video 
switcher and the controller. Figure 2 specifies the pins that are used in the 
cable. 

For Home Theater Controller or Media Controller "Serial 3" or "Serial 4" 
Ports (Figure 3): Use the provided cable with the DB9 female end and the 
stripped open end: From the open end of the cable, insert wires into the 
appropriate openings of the pluggable terminal block and then snap the 
terminal block's latch closed. These are the correct connections (see 
Figure 3): 

•   

Insert the black wire from DB9 pin 3 (TX) into the RX terminal block opening. 

•   

Insert the white wire from DB9 pin 2 (RX) into the TX terminal block opening. 

•   

Insert the red wire from DB9 pin 5 (GND) into the GND terminal block opening. 

•   

Connect the remaining end of the DB9 cable to the Sony video switcher.
