The
RS
manual hand and face dryer is suited for heavy duty
applications manufactured from vandal resistant pressure die
cast aluminium with an epoxy/polyester powder coat.
Installation

Mechanical
The unit is strongly constructed to resist vandalism but can only
be as strong as the means by which it is fixed to the wall and
the protection given to the electrical supply cable. If it is felt
that vandalism is a possibility in a situation where the unit is to
be installed, then the base plate of the unit should be bolted to
the wall with 6mm (

"
) bolts, either of 'through wall' or
expansion types depending upon the thickness of the wall.
In circumstances where vandalism is not anticipated the unit
may be fixed to the wall with 65mm or 75mm (2.5" or 3")
x No.12 wood screws and suitable masonry plugs.
To remove the outer cover of the dryer take the allen key
supplied and insert the key through the small holes in the lower
face of the cover and, when location is felt, turn
clockwise
until
a firm resistance is met. When this has been done on both
sides, push the cover towards the top of the unit and then lift
away. When replacing the cover ensure that the pins on the
top of the base plate and the socket head screws below all
locate properly into the cover. On refixing, you will be
unscrewing the socket head screws from the base plate until
they lock into the lower section of the cover. These screws
should be tightened firmly to ensure earth continuity to the
cover but care should be taken not to overtighten.
When the cover is removed, the four fixing holes which are
provided in the base plate can be seen in the corners. The
position of these holes has been included on the template for
convenience. It is important to install the unit at the correct
height above the floor, 1.5 metres (or 5 feet) to the top of the
unit, as this will allow a comfortable hand drying position for the
majority of adults. In areas where the average age is under 16
years, the height to the top of the unit may be dropped by 0.2
metres (or 8").
Electrical
The unit should be connected to a single phase electricity
supply (220/240V
50Hz).
The 20mm conduit entry should be from the rear of the unit.
Rear entry is recommended since the conduit is then not visible
on the surface of the wall.
Always ensure that the installation conforms to the current
edition of the IEE wiring regulations. In particular ensure
that the unit is properly earthed and separately fused with
a suitably rated fuse. Also ensure that it is connected to
the supply via a double pole switch having a contact
separation of at least 3mm. Care should be taken that
single insulated conductors cannot come into contact with
the mounting surface.
Setting up and testing
When the dryer has been fixed to the wall, the setting of the
operating button may have altered due to surface irregularities,
so may need some adjustment.
To test the setting, place your ear close to the cover and slowly
press the button. You should hear a 'click' as the internal
switch is operated and another as you release the button. If
the 'click' on depression of the button is not heard, remove the
cover and turn the adjusting screw anti-clockwise for one
complete turn. Re-test and repeat if necessary. If the 'click' on
release of the button is not heard, reverse the above process.
When checking the above it is important to firmly secure
the cover for each check and between each adjustment.
When the above conditions are met, switch on the power and
press the button. The unit should now operate for
approximately 30 seconds.
Test this operation a minimum of three times before accepting
that installation is complete.
Service
The hot air hand and face dryer has been designed with ease
of service in mind. Ten minutes every three months will ensure
that the unit will give trouble free operation for many years.
Quarterly service
Isolate the unit from the electricity supply before
attempting to remove the cover.
When isolated, remove the front cover from the unit using the
allen key supplied. With a small, stiff brush clean away any fluff
from the inlet and outlet grills. Every six months it may be
necessary to clear accumulated fluff from the fan blades.
Remove the outlet grill by pulling away from the fan housing
and lightly brush away any fluff from the blades. Do not press
hard on the fan as this component is finely balanced. Replace
the outlet grill. Check length of motor brushes and replace if
required, see label on motor/bracket assembly. Replace the
cover ensuring that the pins on the top of the base locate
properly into the cover. Re-connect the electricity supply and
test dryer operation. This is all the regular service that is
required for this unit.
Fault finding
Using the fault diagnosis chart (figure 1) the fault can be
determined and appropriate action taken. The unit is designed
on a modular basis for ease of servicing.
