Operating Instructions

1. Turn the feedscrew counterclockwise until the slide is fully

retracted.

2. Depress the latch and pull the lower yoke to open the

hinged pipe cutter.

3. Place the hinged pipe cutter over the piece of pipe to be cut.
4. Close the hinged pipe cutter around the pipe. Care should

be taken so the cutter wheels do not strike the pipe. This
can shorten cutter wheel life.

5. With both guides resting on the pipe, align the cutter

wheels with the desired cut location.

6. Turn the feedscrew clockwise until the cutter wheels con-

tact the pipe.

7. Tighten the feedscrew approximately one half turn. (This

can be more or less, depending on the material, thickness,
and operator. If excessive force is required to rotate the
hinged pipe cutter in step 8, loosen feedscrew slightly.
Especially aggressive cutting can lower cutter wheel life.)

8. Rotate the hinged pipe cutter so that the track from one

cutter wheel slightly overlaps that of the cutter wheels to
either side of it. Repeat several times.

9. Repeat step 7 and 8 until the pipe is cut.

Getting the best out of your RIDGID
Hinged Pipe Cutter

• Use the proper cutter wheel for the application. Follow the

cutter wheel recommendations made in the application
chart on this sheet.

• When rotating the cutter as described in step 8 of operat-

ing instructions, keep the tool perpendicular to the pipe’s
axis. This minimizes side loading of the cutter wheels that
can result to premature cutter wheel failure.

• Do not mix cutter wheels. Mixing cutter wheels can lead

to premature cutter wheel failure.

• When cutting underground pipe, remove rust, dirt, etc.

from pipe before cutting. This allows easier cutting and
lengthens cutter wheel life.

• Lubricate the cutter wheels (both the bore and blade)

while cutting. Oiling the cutter wheels while cutting eases
the operation and results in longer cutter wheel life.

• Use only RIDGID cutter wheels. RIDGID cutter wheels

have been specifically designed for long life and low cut-
ting effort.

• Keep tool clean and lubricated for ease of use and long

life.
