The

 UniPak

 is capable of dimming or switching resistive and 

inductive loads, and switching capacitive loads.  To dim capacitive 
loads, e.g. projectors with power factor correction (PFC) capacitors, 
remove their PFC capacitors. 

This makes the 

UniPak

 suitable for running all types of low voltage 

lamps, electric motors, neon lights, properly ballasted fluorescent 
lamps etc. besides ordinary resistive tungsten lamps. 

INSTALLATION AND SERVICE

 

must only be carried 

out by suitably skilled and competent persons.   The Unipak 
must be connected in accordance with current local and 

national wiring regulations.  When not in use for a period of time or 
before working on the lighting installation, replacing lamps or loads, 
the Unipak should be isolated (disconnected) from the mains supply.   
If the Unipak is not installed or operated according to this instruction 
leaflet then the protection provided by the Unipak may be impaired. 

WARNING - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED 

INSTALLATION AND VENTILATION 

All Dimming and 

Switching Packs generate a certain amount of heat, so it is essential 
to leave a 25mm air gap around the Unipak. 

TRUSS MOUNTING 

Two M10 nutserts are provided in the side of 

the Unipak.  The maximum thread depth from panel to bottom of 
nutsert is 25mm.  Select a suitable length M10 bolt to attach the 
hangers to the Unipak and attach the hangers to the truss. 
A safety chain may be attached to a bolt through one of the M6 holes 
located on the base (see Trunking Mounting). 

TRUNKING MOUNTING 

Disconnect the mains supply to the 

Unipak.  Remove the two M6 blind plastic rivets located on the base 
and remove the lid.  Trunking clips (not provided) are attached to the 
base with M6 nuts and bolts and the lid re-fixed.  The Unipak may 
now be clipped to the trunking and the mains re-applied. 

CABLE GLANDS

 for hardwiring are located on the side panels. 

Please observe the lid printing which states which gland is for mains 
input, controlled output, digital in and digital thru.  Incorrect wiring will 
result in the protection provided by the Unipak being impaired. 

LEVER OPERATED SPRING LOADED TERMINAL 
BLOCKS

 

are used for all input /output connections for speed and 

reliability. 
Use a small bladed screwdriver or similar, to operate the lever.

MAINS SUPPLY 

Important:

  For your Safety the Unipak must be Earthed, fed via a 

Residual Current Circuit Breaker and Local Isolator fused for the 
maximum current taken by the load.   You might find a Pulsar Mains 
Distribution Unit suitable. 

Mains Voltage:

  100 - /-10%, single phase.   There is no 

voltage selector  - the electronics automatically adjusts to the 
incoming voltage. 

Mains Frequency:

 48-62Hz, the electronics automatically adjusts to 

the frequency. 

Power Consumption:

  The Unipak itself uses very little power, so 

the maximum power consumed (when the light is on full) = the 
wattage of lamp connected.   The maximum load is 10 Amps.  

MAINS CONNECTIONS 

The hardwired version uses the lever operated terminal blocks for 
mains in, controlled output and digital control in/thru. 
The socketed version utilises Neutrik PowerCon connectors for 
mains input and controlled output.  Digital control input being via 5 pin 
XLR connectors (in/thru). 

Live, Neutral and Earth Input: 

For the hardwired version, use the internal lever operated terminal 
block (10A max. rating) to connect the incoming mains supply cable. 
The socketed version utilizes the NAC3FCA (blue) inlet cable 
connector (supplied). 
Connect your supply cable as follows: 

N  =  Neutral 

E  = 

 

  Earth  

L  =  Live/Phase/Hot

 

Live, Neutral and Earth Output:  

For the hardwired version, use the internal lever operated terminal 
block (10A max. rating) to connect the outgoing load cable. 
The socketed version utilizes the NAC3FCB (white) outlet cable 
connector (supplied). 
Connect your load cable as follows: 

N  =  Neutral 

E  = 

 

  Earth  

L  =  Live/Phase/Hot

 

DIGITAL CONNECTIONS

 are made by hardwiring, or by using 

the sockets provided (5 pin XLR)

.  

  The connections are indicated on 

the lid and can be seen on the PCB in the hardwired version.

• 

Pins 4 and 5 are occasionally used by other manufacturers for 
data.  We recommend the use of 2 core plus screen cable, leaving 
pins 4 and 5 open circuit, to connect to this type of equipment.  
However, the Low Voltage Supply, +9...25VDC at up to 40mA, on 
pin 5 of the IN connector is limited to cause no harm to such 
equipment.
