SAFE SWINGING AND PREVENTION OF ACCIDENTS

As with many sportive activities in leisure time, there is always a certain risk of injuries. This chapter learns about the most common cause for

accidents and things supervisors and users have to keep extra in mind.

For adults it is important to discuss the following with the children:

•

Ensure that nobody jumps at the swing (to get on the swing or during swinging). Attempts to jump on the swing very often results in falls

and injuries. The user has to take his place on the swing in a normal way.

•

Ensure that you are sitting in the middle of the swing. The chance of falls reduces, when you are sitting in the middle instead of on the

edge.

•

Ensure that the rubber protective edges of the ring are in good condition and that they cover the entire ring. If this is not the case, make

sure that the ring is on the right place: ensure that the ring is fully covered.

•

A user who loses control, has more chance of getting injured. Do not swing too hight in order to prevent falls.

•

Always check the swing before use. Check for holes, cracks, sharp edges and whether metal parts have been affected by rust. Check the

ropes for rips and damages.

•

Do not push fingers (or other body parts) through the ropes, to avoid injuries.

•

Do not place anything underneath the swing.

The owner and supervisors are responsible for warning the users regarding these instructions.

MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS

•

This article comes without fixing material. Use only fixing material that is meant for swings.

•

The height of the hanging point should be determined in a way that one can sit on the swing conveniently.

The distance from the ground to the swing has to be at least 35 cm (maximum 46 cm), so ensure you find

a place with sufficient height.

•

It is important that there is enough space around the swing. We recommend to keep at least 2,5 meters

away from fences, walls, clotheslines, etc.

•

Hang the product only on a construction with sufficient height which can carry over 100 kg.

•

Ensure that the device on which the swing is going to be mounted is strong enough and does not wobble.

•

Check before using the swing if the rings are firmly tightened, to prevent that the rings open, or that the rope

slips away from it.

•

All bolts and screws have to be checked if they are tightened well. When this is not the case, they have to be

tightened firmly.

•

When the rope is damaged, it is not allowed to use the swing any longer.

•

Damaged parts have to be replaced according to the instructions of the manufacturer.

MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS

Check the swing before every use, the following circumstances can result in accidents. Check the swing, the chains, the rope and other parts for signs of wear.

1.

The hooks and springs of the swing should be oiled on a regular basis. Check also if they are affected by rust because this can affect the

performance of the product. Always replace them in case of doubt.

2.

Check all parts of the swing for wear and rust, etc.

3.

Check specifically the ropes of the swing for wear. Do this by loosening the swing and removing the pressure from the rope, so that the

ropes can be accurately checked. In case of doubt always replace the rope by a similar product.

4.

Make sure the swing is dry before storing.

5.

Start with the maintenance instructions at the beginning of the swing season en perform this instructions during the seasons on a regular

basis.
