Overview
The Quidway® NetEngine 40 universal switching router (USR) series (abbreviated as NE40)
are the fifth generation of Huawei proprietary high-end routers, which features excellent
processing capability, abundant interfaces and services. This series are high-end network
products oriented to large-scale enterprise networks, IP MANs and IP backbone networks.
NE40-8, NE40-4 and NE40-2 comprise the NE40.

Based on the 2.5 G NP platform, the NE40 provides high-density Ethernet interfaces, leased
line interfaces and low-speed interfaces. It supports line boards and service interfaces at a rate
ranging from 64 Kbps to 2.5 Gbps.
Architecture
Based on distributed forwarding architecture, the NE40 is designed with high-performance
network processor in the telecom industry. NE40 is a universal switching router (USR). As an
enhancement of the core router, it is packed with features of the L3 switch, powerful
processing capability and L2 features. All of these add up to a product of high
price-to-performance ratio.
