BALANCE BEAM
Set Up
1. Place the base on a level surface. Carefully place the balance beam, pan hanger, and pan as
shown. Place both counterweights in the “0” position.
2. Ensure the balance beam pivots freely. The magnetic damper will minimize oscillation.
3. Adjust the leveling foot until the beam pointer indicates zero.
Do NOT adjust the balancing
nuts; they were pre-set at the Hornady factory and should not require adjustment.
Weighing
1. Ensure the counterweights are at zero and the pointer indicates zero.
2. Place an item to weigh in the pan. The pointer will rise.
3. Adjust the large counterweight (5 grain increments) until the pointer drops below zero.
Then move it back one notch.
4. Adjust the small counterweight (0.1 grain increments) until the pointer indicates zero.
5. Add the two numbers together for the final weight (i.e. 85+4.2=89.2).
