Establishing a Connection with the HIMS QBraille XL
If you choose "USB", you are directly placed in Terminal Mode. If you connect QBraille to a computer, it
will automatically be recognized as a USB keyboard, however, no Braille output will occur automatically,
unless a screen reader is running, the HIMS USB driver is installed, and the screen reader has been
configured to use a HIMS Braille display.
If you choose Bluetooth, Pairing Mode is initiated, and you must establish the Bluetooth pairing with
your phone or PC.
You can pair the device as a keyboard, Braille display, or both. The Bluetooth Keyboard device name is
QBrailleXL. The Bluetooth Braille display (SPP) device name is “Braille EDGE”, as the Braille display
operates using the same protocol as our Braille EDGE 40.
Supported Screen Readers for HIMS QBraille XL
The following screen readers have been tested and are known to be supported. However, any screen
reader that offers support for the HIMS Braille EDGE/BrailleSense should also support QBraille.

3) Supernova (Dolphin)
4) System Access (Serotek)
5) NVDA (NV Access)
6) Voice over for Mac and iOS (Apple)
7) BrailleBack for Android (Google)
Connecting to PC via USB
To connect the QBraille XL to a screen reader such as Jaws or NVDA via USB, you must install the proper
USB driver on your PC. Below are steps for installing the USB driver.
1) Download the USB driver for QBraille XL from the HIMS website.
2) Unzip the compressed file and execute “Braille_SENSE_USB_Driver.exe.
3) When the “Braille Sense USB Driver Setup wizard” appears, press the “Install” button.
4) When the installation wizard appears, select the “Next” button.
