7.1.1 What You Can Do in the Basic Setting Screens

screen displays general ONU information and hardware polling

screen allows you to configure a ONU IP address in each routing domain,

7.1.2 What You Need to Know About the Basic Setting Screens
The following terms and concepts may help as you read through this chapter.
Firmware
Firmware is a program embedded directly on a piece of hardware. It controls the ONU, and
can be upgraded although the process is quite different from upgrading normal software.
NTP
NTP stands for Network Time Protocol. It is employed by devices connected to the Internet in
order to obtain a precise time setting from an official time server. These time servers are
accurate to within 200 microseconds.
VLAN
A Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN), standardized as IEEE 802.1Q, allows a physical
network to be partitioned into various logical networks. Only stations on the same logical
network can intercommunicate.
