15.2 Saving Logs
System logs are stored in volatile memory. That means once you restart the device, all logs are
erased. You can save the logs in two locations: on the OMC or on an external syslog server.
• To save logs on the OMC, select the Save System Logs option in the General Setup
screen (refer to Section 6.3 on page 59 ). This sets the OMC to automatically saves the
current logs to its memory every one hour. You can store up to 1000 logs on the OMC.
Once the number is reached, the OMC wraps around and deletes the old logs.
• To save logs on an external syslog server, configure the Syslog Server Setup screen (refer
to Section 16.2 on page 133 ). Make sure the syslog server is connected to the MGMT port
on the OMC.
IP Ping Type the IP address of a device that you want to ping in order to test a
connection.
Click
Ping to have the OMC ping the IP address (in the field to the left) through
the MGMT port.
Port Test Select a PON port and an LLID and click Port Test to perform the loopback test.
This allows you to see the link quality and statistics.
