Captive Portal
A captive portal is an intermediary web page that intercepts all web page requests from a
client. It gives the client the opportunity to either authenticate securely, or pass through in the
the case of an “open” portal and connect to the Internet.
7.2 Network Redundancy
Network redundancy is a system whereby you set up duplicate (redundant) network servers in
order to ensure the network remains stable in the event that the main servers become
unreliable. The NXC-8160 allows you to set up a standby NXC-8160 as a means to maintain
your network intergrity in such a manner. If the main device encounters problems then the
other one can take over, leaving your connections intact.
In the example below, the backup NXC-8160 (
B
) checks its network integrity by periodically
pinging a reference server (
R)
. As long as the reference server returns the expected response
within a reasonable time frame, the main NXC-8160 (
P
) remains active and the standby NXC-
8160 (
B)
does nothing.
