The PoE m odel( s) suppor t s t he I EEE 802.3at High Pow er over Et her net ( PoE) st andar d.
A pow er ed device ( PD) is a device such as an access point or a sw it ch, t hat suppor t s PoE ( Pow er
over Et her net ) so t hat it can r eceive pow er from anot her device t hr ough an Et her net por t .
I n t he figur e below, t he I P cam era and I P phone get t heir pow er dir ect ly fr om t he Sw it ch. Aside
fr om m inim izing t he need for cables and wires, PoE r em oves t he hassle of t r ying t o find a near by
elect r ic out let t o pow er up devices.
Speed/ Duplex
Select t he speed and t he duplex m ode of t he Et her net connect ion on t his por t . Choices ar e
Au t o- 1 0 0 0 M , 1 0 M / H a lf D u ple x , 1 0 M / Fu ll D u ple x , 1 0 0 M / H a lf D u ple x , 1 0 0 M / Fu ll
D u ple x and 1 0 0 0 M / Fu ll D u ple x ( Gigabit connect ions only) .
Select ing Au t o- 1 0 0 0 M ( aut o- negot iat ion) allow s one por t t o negot iat e w it h a peer por t
aut om at ically t o obt ain t he connect ion speed ( of up t o 1000M) and duplex m ode t hat bot h
ends suppor t . When aut o- negot iat ion is t ur ned on, a por t on t he Sw it ch negot iat es w it h t he
peer aut om at ically t o det er m ine t he connect ion speed and duplex m ode. I f t he peer por t
does not suppor t aut o- negot iat ion or t ur ns off t his feat ure, t he Sw it ch det er m ines t he
connect ion speed by det ect ing t he signal on t he cable and using half duplex m ode. When t he
Sw it ch’s aut o- negot iat ion is t ur ned off, a por t uses t he pr e- configur ed speed and duplex
m ode w hen m ak ing a connect ion, t hus r equir ing you t o m ake sur e t hat t he set t ings of t he

Flow Cont r ol
A concent rat ion of t raffic on a por t decr eases port bandw idt h and over flow s buffer m em or y
causing packet discards and fram e losses. Flow Con t r ol is used t o r egulat e t ransm ission of
signals t o m at ch t he bandw idt h of t he receiv ing por t .
The Sw it ch uses I EEE802.3x flow cont r ol in full duplex m ode and back pr essur e flow cont r ol in
half duplex m ode.
I EEE802.3x flow cont rol is used in full duplex m ode t o send a pause signal t o t he sending
por t , causing it t o t em porar ily st op sending signals w hen t he r eceiving por t m em or y buffer s
fill.
Back Pr essur e flow cont rol is t ypically used in half duplex m ode t o send a " collision" signal t o
t he sending por t ( m im ick ing a st at e of packet collision) causing t he sending por t t o
t em porar ily st op sending signals and r esend lat er. Select Flow Con t r ol t o enable it .
