20.1.3 Cookies
Cookies are used by Web servers to track usage. Cookies provide service based on ID. Unfortunately,
cookies can be programmed not only to identify the visitor to the site, but also to track that visitor's activities.
Because they represent a potential loss of privacy, some people may choose to block cookies.
20.1.4 Web Proxy
When a proxy server is located on the WAN it is possible for LAN users to circumvent content filtering by
pointing to this proxy server. This feature disables access to proxy servers located on the WAN. It has no
effect on those located on the LAN. For example, a user on the LAN could configure their Web browser to
point to one of the many public Web proxies on the Internet. When that user requests a Web page, their Web
browser formats the request for the proxy server, hiding it from the content filter. As a result, the user is able
to access unfiltered content on the Internet.
20.2 Blocking URLs
The Prestige may also block specific URLs by filling in the Domain Name field. The Prestige looks at the
rightmost part of URLs first, so when using this feature you should include the top-level domain name. For
example, to block access to the Playboy web site, you should enter “playboy.com” as the “domain name” -
not just “playboy”. The top-level American domains are listed here. Your local service provider is probably
part of the .
net domain, while your company is probably part of the . com domain.
