This Quick Start describes the USB Dial-up modem installation for Windows

Macintosh
®
and Linux systems.
Before You Begin
Before you install your USB Dial-up modem, make sure that you have the following items that were supplied:

Phone

The CD contains the installation software, documentation, and Customer Support information.
Important Safety Note
• To reduce the risk of fire, use the supplied phone cord or an AWG 26 or larger UL-listed or CSA-certified phone cord.
Getting Started
If your computer has a CD-ROM drive:
Windows 8, Windows 7, Vista, XP, and 2000 users:

I
nstalling the Software
if you DON’T have a CD-ROM drive in your computer
Windows 8 or Windows 7 users:
Your computer will automatically recognize your modem. After your modem is installed, you will need to update
the modem’s drivers if you want to use the modem’s voice or modem-on-hold features. Tin that case type into your Internet browser’s address bar

and download the latest drivers. Follow the on-screen instructions to upgrade your modem's
drivers.
All other users who don’t have a CD-ROM drive:
Connect to the Internet through an alternate computer (such as a computer at work) and
download the software from Zoom’s tech support page by typing into your Internet browser’s address bar

Follow the on-screen instructions to download the software. Save the software onto a USB thumb drive. Plug the USB thumb drive into your
computer and then download and install the software onto your computer.
Installing the Modem on Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP, and 2000
Install the Software

Make sure that your computer is powered on and that your modem is NOT plugged in. Close any applications that are running.

Insert the modem's CD into your CD or DVD drive.
Windows 8:
if the
Tap to choose what happens with this disk
appears, click the box and then select
Run Setup.exe
. If the
User Account
Control
dialog appears, select
Yes
.
Windows 7 / Vista:
If the
AutoPlay
dialog appears, click
Run Setup.exe
. If the
User Account Control
dialog appears, select
Allow
or
Yes
.
The CD should start automatically after a few seconds and display an installation screen. If the CD does not start automatically, select
Computer
or
My Computer
on your desktop and double-click the CD (or DVD) drive icon.

When the introductory window opens, select your language.

On the
Modem Installation
menu, click
Install Modem Drivers
, then
USB Drivers
.

The installation program begins.
Windows 8:
If a Windows security message box appears click
Install
.
Windows 7 / Vista:
If a publisher verification message appears, click
Install
.
Windows XP:
If a Windows logo test message appears, click
Continue Anyway.
Windows 2000:
If a Digital Signature message appears, you can safely ignore it and click
Yes
.

On the
Device Driver Installation...
screen, click
OK
.

Next the
Netwaiting Modem on Hold Setup
screen appears.
Netwaiting
allows you to receive a phone call while you are online. (This
requires Call Waiting service from your telephone company.)
Click
Next
and follow the prompts if you want to install
Netwaiting
. If you do
not want to install
Netwaiting
, click
Cancel
and then click
Yes
to cancel the setup.

On the
NetWaiting Setup InstallShield...
screen, click
Finish.

On the
Modem Installation
screen, click
Main Menu
, then
Exit
.

Remove the installation CD and shut down your computer.
Connect the Modem and Confirm the Installation

Make sure that your computer is powered off.

Make a note of the modem's serial number, which is located on the bottom of the modem case, just under the barcode.

Plug the modem into any USB port on your computer.

Turn on your computer.

A popup notification message states that the new hardware installed successfully.
