The Dosing of the Acid
a)
Determination of the Moisture content of the Grain
Initially, the moisture content of the grain must be determined using a moisture
measuring device.
b)
The Application Quantity of the Propionic Acid dependant of the Storage Period
Determine the application quantity of the acid (1/100 kg grain) in dependence to the
moisture content of the grain and the storage time using the quantity recommendations
stated by BASF (see
Application Quantity for Luprosil®
Section 14.)
c)
Conveying Output of the Discharge Worm Conveyor
The conveying output of the worm depends on the position of the slide, the inclination
of the worm, the moisture content of the grain, the impurity level, the grain size, the
form of the grain (wheat, maize) and the thousand-grain-weight. It is best determined
by a 30 second trial run. Converted to the output of 60 minutes, this represents the
output of the worm per hour. The trial should in total be repeated two to three times in
order to eliminate the possibility of errors. The subsequently generated average value
represents the conveying output.
Should there be any change of the relevant factors stated above change, the trial runs
must be repeated.
For safety reasons, it is feasible to raise the determined liter-quantity of the acid by 10
%, if the deployed worm is not a special mixing screw.
To enable the trial run
without
using the PKT-unit, the worm elevator is directly
connected to the mains (using an extension cable).
The activation of the
switch is only possible, if the pump (switch
) is operative.
This is the reason a direct connection with the mains is required.
The
switch (worm conveyor) can however also be live, if the contact transmitter
(float) and pickup are at the lowest position at and in the flow measuring pipe.
This setting can be set, for instance, in order to perform a calibration test of the
conveying output of the worm.
For PKT devices which are integrated into a system with an already existing worm
conveyor, the conveying output of the worm must be established using the same
method.
Further conveying using a blower system, according to BASF, requires a 10%
higher quantity.
