Oil/Water Separators
Models: OS1251 Series
Installation instructions:
The ZEKS oil/water separators have been specially developed to separate oil from condensate extracted from
compressed air systems and are effective with all types and makes of compressors, oils and drain valves.
To obtain the best performance, we recommend the following:
Installation:
1) The OS series oil/water separators are designed to easily fit against a wall or in a corner. Position the unit with
TEST to the front and remove the lids from the top of both vessels.
2) After ensuring that no harmful pressure exists, connect the condensate inlet pipe(s) using one or all four 1/2" inlet
connections as required. If only one connection is used, the others can be sealed with a screwed plug. Do not over-
tighten any connections.
3) Connect the 1/2" outlet connection to a suitable drain. Do not over-tighten connections.
4) Lift the pre-absorption element from vessel (1) and place it to one side for the time being.
5) Remove the plastic packing material from the activated carbon element and slide it back in to the vessel (2) and
let it rest on the bottom of the vessel. Place the closed lid on vessel (2).
6)
Remove the depressurizer foam pad, pour clean water into the depressurization chamber until it flows from the
outlet pipe and then replace the foam pad into the depressurization chamber.
7) With the cable-tied end upwards, replace the white pre-absorption element into vessel (1) until the top of the
element is about level with the top of the vessel.
Do not attempt
to push the pre-absorption element downwards
into the water, the element should remain above the water.
8) Place the lid with the white indicator rod onto vessel (1), holding the rod and then lowering it so that it sits on top
of the pre-absorption element (the indicator will stick out the top of the lid).
9) Your ZEKS oil/water separator is now ready for use.
During initial filling, effervescence may rise from the carbon element; this is only displaced air and is entirely harmless.
ZEKS oil/water separator carbon elements should be pre-soaked for 24 hours. Any carbon dust in the outlet water is
harmless.
We recommend that an initial check be made daily on the quality of the discharged condensate from your oil/water
separator. After a day or so, the condensate should be clear when viewed in a clear glass container.
Maintenance instructions:
Used elements can be heavy. We strongly advise that normal precautions for the lifting of heavy weights are
taken.
The indicator will sink down as oil is absorbed by the pre-absorption element. The rate of fall of the indicator over a
period of time will give an indication of when a new pre-absorption element is likely to be required. A rising indicator
means that either too much fluid is being put into the machine or that a blockage has occurred.
When the top of the indicator approaches the lid of the vessel, the pre-absorption element needs to be replaced.
To replace the
pre-absorption element
, remove the lid assembly from the top of the vessel (1) and lift the used
pre-
absorption element
out of the vessel. Simply lower the new pre-absorption element into the vessel (1) and let it rest
(float) on the water level.
To change carbon elements, remove a carbon element from its vessel (2) after removing the lid, lift the used carbon
element from the vessel and place where the draining water will cause no harm. Slide the new carbon element into the
vessel (2) until it rests on the bottom of the vessel. The top of the carbon element should be below the outlet hole. If
required, clean water can be poured onto the top of the carbon element to prevent dust.
All used elements must be properly disposed of in accordance with current regulations for the disposal of
hazardous waste in your area.
