Focusing and centering the lamp

•
Turn adjusting screw (5/
1
) to move the
burner axially until the brighter cathode spot
(burner) and the darker cathode spot (mirror
image of lamp) appear approximately
equally large.
•
Using a ball-headed screwdriver (SW 3), turn
adjusting screws (5/
2
) and (5/
3
) to adjust
the brighter cathode spot vertically and
laterally until both cathode spots are lying
exactly side by side as shown below.

Repeat the steps of adjustment, if
necessary, until you obtain a
satisfactory lamp image.
Adjustment with adjusting aid
•
Attach the HBO 50 illuminator to the
microscope stand following the description
given in the operating manual of the
microscope.
•
Pull out the adjusting aid of the upper part
of the microscope (8/
1
). The brighter
cathode spot of the lamp and its slightly
darker mirror image become visible on the
black-glass window of the adjusting aid.
•
Then, using a ball-headed screwdriver
(SW 3), turn adjusting screw (5/
1
) to adjust
the cathode spot so that the cathode spot
and the mirror image of the cathode spot
are focused simultaneously.
•
Using a ball-headed screwdriver (SW 3), turn
adjusting screws (5/
2
) and (5/
3
) to center
the cathode spot and its mirror image to the
centering circle of the adjusting aid.

Adjustment of the Axio Scope
–
Make sure that the two cathode spots
of the HBO 50 illuminator do
not
completely overlap in the centering
circle of the adjusting aid, but only
slightly!
–
Repeat the steps of fine adjustment, if
necessary, until you obtain a
satisfactory lamp image.
