YX021-CEL Directional Signal Antenna Installation
The YX021-CEL is a high gain, directional panel antenna for use with the zBoost YX545 SOHO and Custom Install products to
provide maximum signal strength when aimed in the direction of best signal.
If you know the direction of your provider’s tower, point the flat face in that direction. Note: the closest tower may NOT be
used by your provider. Some helpful hints are included if you are unsure where your tower is located.
Note:
Once the Base Unit is connected and plugged in, verify that the indicator light stays
green. If the indicator light is red, you may need to reorient the antenna or increase the
distance between the Base Unit and Signal Antenna. See the Troubleshooting section
and

for more information.
Installation Steps:
1.
When choosing the location for the Signal Antenna, remember higher points generally produce the best results. If you
do not have roof access, choose the side of the building with the strongest signal. Using your wireless phone, walk
around your house while noting the number of “bars” on your signal strength indicator.
2.
When you have determined the location of the strongest signal, install and tighten the antenna to a mast or pole using
the provided hardware. Loosely connect to the mast so that rotation adjustments may still be made.
Note:
Maintain 6 ft of separation between metal and the antenna. Also, for best performance, maintain 15 ft of vertical
separation between the Base Unit and the antenna.
3.
Route the coax cable indoors and connect to the Base Unit using the Cell Phone Signal Booster installation instructions.
Antenna Aiming:
To maximize performance, take special care in aiming the antenna in the direction of the best signal from your wireless
service provider.
Note on using cell phone bars to measure signal:
While the number of signal bars is a good indicator of signal strength, it is
not always accurate. The ability to make and complete calls is the most important gauge of signal.
1.
Place your cell phone on a non-metal surface which is 6-8 feet from Base Unit Antenna.
2.
Connect power to the zBoost Base Unit and wait 30 seconds. Note the number of signal bars displayed on your cell
phone.
3.
Record the number of signal bars (or range)
_ (A) on your cell phone. Leave the phone in the same for the
following steps.
4.
Rotate the antenna mast 90 degrees and record the number of signal bars (or range)
(B).
5.
Continue to rotate the antenna mast another 90 degrees in the same direction and record the phone signal bars (or
range)
_ (C).
6.
Again, rotate the antenna mast another 90 degrees in the same direction and again record the phone signal bars (or
range)
_ (D).
7.
Look for the highest reading above. Set the antenna to that position.
8.
If you desire further optimization, look for the two highest readings above and move the antenna between these two
points to find the highest signal bars reading.
9.
Once you have determined the highest reading position tighten the antenna mast.
