PHYSICAL
The HE4K-DCK-1X is comprised of three PCBs:

Interface Front End PCB
This board contains the interface with the Sony FCB-ER8300 camera block. The ER8300 connects
directly to the KEL connector with a KEL cable provided.
Be sure to use only the KEL cable provided by Z3 Technology. Different KEL cables have different
wiring configurations, using the wrong configuration will result in permanent damage to the
camera or encoder.
An optional Micro HDMI input jack can be present. If so, this jack will accept video and audio
from an external HDMI source as long as the signal is not encrypted with HDCP.
The HE4K and FV4K encoders use different Interface Front End boards.
The HE4K front end PCB offers a KEL connector and a micro HDMI input for its main and only
video input path.
In addition to the KEL and HDMI jacks, the FV4K front end PCB contains a MMCX jack for
composite video input and a 30-pin FlexIO header for digital interface types.

Main Encoder PCB
This board contains the CPU and is the core of the encoder. This PCB also includes a Micro-SD
card socket. Some versions of the Main Encoder PCB also contain a 2.5mm circular jack used to
access the CPU console port, useful to load initial software and for debug.

I/O Jack and PoE PCB
This board contains all the I/O jacks as well as the PoE (power over Ethernet) circuits. Some
versions of this PCB contain a 2.5mm phone-style jack for the serial console port of the CPU. This
PCB contains the ESD and surge protection as required for each I/O type.
All three boards measure 58 x 58 mm, 1.6mm thick and are designed to be stacked, allowing for a very
compact mechanical assembly. The diagram below shows the physical arrangement of the three boards
mounted on a chassis together with a Sony FCB-ER8300 camera block.
