Connecting the FLIR Tau2 Camera Digital Interface
The FLIR Tau2 camera can be interfaced to the encoder via analog composite video or digital video.
The FLIR Tau2 camera requires an interface adapter board in order for it to provide connectivity with the
outside world. FLIR makes available a VPC module and a Cameralink module.
The Z3 interface board for the Tau2 camera will provide both composite and digital video outputs as well as
serial port and USB for standalone configuration.
The Z3 interface board provides a JST connector identical to the encoder’s FlexIO header, allowing for a
direct connection between the camera and encoder system. The same cable will carry power to the camera,
establish serial communications for control and provide a path for digital video.
This is the preferred method of connection.
The FlexIO cable for the Tau2 must wire two JST SHD header shells SHDR-30V-S-B directly, straight pin to
pin.
Pins 1, 3, 5 and 7 carry power from the encoder to the camera.
Pins 2 and 4 provide serial control, LVTTL level.
Pins 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 are for the digital video path.
Pins 8 and 15 are ground and must always be connected.
If analog composite video is desired then pins 29 and 30 need to be connected.
If digital video is NOT required then pins 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24 are not required.
The table below shows the connections between the FLIR Tau2 and the Z3 interface board for the Tau2, part
number 30-0074.
