E-13. Step 13 – Velocity Profile Extrapolation
Change the Profile Graph to display Profile Extrapolation (
View | Profile Graph Variable
). Change
the scale to maximize the display of the graph. Step through the profiles from the beginning and
review how appropriate the extrapolation method is for each one. Keep in mind that the same ex-
trapolation method is used for all profiles.
Open the Velocity Profile Extrapolation dialog (
Processing|Velocity Profile Extrapolation
) and
review the current settings. Modify them as necessary and review the new extrapolated profile.
Is the method of extrapolation valid? The most common method is the Power Fit.
Is the extrapolation method valid for both the top and bottom of the profile? Is there evidence of
bi-directional flow? Bid-directional flow will require a different method for each of the top and
bottom sections of the profile and approximate identification of the depth of the transition zone.
E-14. Step 14 – Review the Entire Measurement and Discharge Summary
Open Discharge Summary (
File|Discharge Summary
) to display the results for all the discharge
measurements.
Are measured discharges within a 5% Coefficient of Variation (COV) (if appropriate)?
Were reciprocal transect pairs obtained? (Left to right and right to left with discharges within 5%
of the mean – if appropriate)
Check the following parameters for consistency:
•
Total area
•
Widths
•
Edge Distances
•
Top, Bottom, and Edge Discharges
•
Measured discharges (middle)
•
SW Ping reference (Yes/No)
•
Depth reference (BT/ES)
•
Velocity and Track references (BT/GPS)
•
Measurement duration
E-15. Step 15 – Review Discharge Report
Open Discharge Report (
File | Export | Discharge Report
)
Select the measurements to be loaded in the report or select an existing summary by clicking
“Load Summary” in the dialog. Did a message “Incompatible data files?” appear before the re-
port was displayed? If so, why were these fields changed from one measurement transect to an-
other? Is it acceptable to compare the measurements if a significant number of parameters have
been changed?
Have all fields been entered correctly and are they consistent with data in field notes and file?
Use scroll bar to view measurement results. Is the total discharge for all transects within accept-
able limits (transects in italics have a Total Discharge that is more than 5% from the mean
value)? Save the summary to a file using the “Save” button at the top right of the report.
