Section 9. System Troubleshooting
This section provides basic assistance in determining and resolving problems with the RiverSur-
veyor system or software. Here is a listing of the problem categories and some common condi-

ADP/General Communication Conditions
- I cannot communicate with the RiverSurveyor system or ADP.
- The ADP indicator light is constantly red or keeps turning red.
- Profiles are being lost or there is intermittent communication.
- RiverSurveyor reported an error when trying to update my settings or start data collection.
- The RiverSurveyor software will not start collecting data.
- The software jumped a few profiles or a group of profiles were received all at once.

Bottom-Track Conditions
- The system keeps losing bottom-track, or the BTrack indicator light keeps turning red.
- The depths for each of the beams are very different.
- Some of the GPS parameters seem incorrect or differ greatly from bottom-track data.

GPS Conditions
- I cannot communicate with my GPS.
- The GPS indicator light is always gray.
- The system keeps losing GPS or the GPS indicator light keeps turning red.
- Some of the GPS parameters seem incorrect or differ greatly from bottom-track data.

Echo Sounder Conditions
- I cannot communicate with my echo sounder.
- The Echo Sounder indicator light is always gray.

Track Window Conditions
- The track display shows erratic jumps when using GPS as the track reference.
- The current vectors in the Track Window do not look correct or show the wrong direction.
- The vessel is stationary, but it is moving in the Track Window.
- The vessel is moving, but it is stationary in the Track Window.
- The track does not show the true path transected by the vessel.
- The current vectors in the track display are very short and going in all different directions.

Contour Window Conditions
- The bottom part of the Contour Window is missing or is too short or totally flat.
- The white profile cutoff line in the Contour Window is not near the bottom.
- The Contour Window is very coarse.
- The signal amplitude or SNR in the Contour or Profile Window is very low.
- The Contour Window is totally black.
- The Contour Window shows lots of gray areas.
- The bottom (riverbed) is not displayed in the Contour Window.

Profile Window Conditions
- One or more of the beams is very different from the others in the Profile Window.
- The Profile Window is showing unusual values for the signal amplitude.
- The profile extrapolation graph shows flow traveling in opposite directions.
- The extrapolated profile does not match the measured velocities.
