Cylinder Head
Removal of Cylinder Head
1. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable.
IMPORTANT
When working on the oil, coolant or fuel
circuits you must protect the alternator from
contamination. Cover alternator with
suitable materials.
Failure to comply may result in an alternator
failure.
2. Drain the coolant from the engine.
3. Remove turbocharger. See Turbocharger
Removal on page 9-9.

4. Remove the banjo bolt (Figure 5-9, (1))
securing the oil pressure sender line to the front
heat exchanger mount. Disconnect wires
(Figure 5-9, (2)) from oil pressure sender.
5. Remove heat exchanger. See Remove and
Install Heat Exchanger on page 7-16.
6. Remove front and rear heat exchanger
mounting brackets (Figure 5-9, (3)) .
7. Remove exhaust manifold. See Exhaust
Manifold on page 5-72.
8. Remove cylinder head cover. See Remove and
Install Cylinder Head Cover on page 5-20.

9. Rotate crankshaft using the crankshaft
dampener bolt until No. 1 cylinder is at TDC.
Secure flywheel using flywheel holding tool.
10. Remove both camshafts. See Removal of
Camshafts on page 5-54.
IMPORTANT
NEVER mix used valve train components.
Whenever removing valve train
components, be sure to identify their
original location or store them in an order
that will allow them to be installed in their
original positions.
11. Remove all hydraulic rocker arm pivots and cam
followers.
