REPLACING THE STEPPING MOTOR
NOTICE

• Allow the stepping motor and rear shock
absorber assembly to cool before perform-
ing this procedure.
• When replacing the stepping motor, re-
move the rear shock absorber assembly
from the vehicle.
• While the stepping motor is removed from
the rear shock absorber assembly, do not
stroke the rear shock absorber rod.

• If the DC motor must be replaced, perform
the following procedure.
• The DC motor may be hot after operation.
Allow the DC motor to cool before perform-
ing this procedure.
1. Install:
• DC motor
(to preload adjusting pump)

a. Turn the shaft “1” of the preload adjusting
pump counterclockwise until it stops.
b. Turn the shaft of the pump clockwise one
turn, and then install the DC motor.

INSTALLING THE REAR SHOCK
ABSORBER ASSEMBLY
1. Install:
• Rear shock absorber assembly
TIP
• Make sure that the warning label on the rear
shock absorber assembly faces to the right.
• When installing the rear shock absorber as-
sembly, lift up the swingarm.
2. Install:
• Rear shock absorber assembly gas cylinder
holder “1”
• Rear shock absorber assembly gas cylinder
“2”
TIP
• Align the projection “a” on the rear shock ab-
sorber assembly gas cylinder bracket with the
punch mark “b” on the rear shock absorber as-
sembly gas cylinder.
• Make sure that the distance “c” between the
rear shock absorber assembly gas cylinder
bracket and the end of the rear shock absorber
assembly gas cylinder is 4.0 mm (0.16 in).
3. Lubricate:
• Spacer
• Bearings
• Oil seals
4. Install:
• Bearings “1”, “2”
(to the relay arm)
• Oil seals “3”, “4”
(to the relay arm)

4.0 mm (0.16 in)
Installed depth “b”
1.0 mm (0.04 in)
Installed depth “c”
3.5–4.5 mm (0.14–0.18 in)
