Checking the outboard motor mount-
ing height

Check that the anti-cavitation plate “1” is
aligned with the bottom of the boat “2”.
TIP:
• If the mounting height is too high, cavitation
will occur and propulsion will decrease. Be-
sides, the engine speed will increase abnor-
mally and cause the engine to overheat.
• If the mounting height is too low, water resis-
tance will increase, which will decrease en-
gine efficiency and performance.
• The appropriate mounting height depends on
the combination of the boat and outboard mo-
tor. To determine the appropriate mounting
height, test run the outboard motor at differ-
ent heights.

Check that there is no abnormal noise pro-
duced when the outboard motor is tilted up
or down.

Check that there is no interference with ca-
bles, hoses, leads, or the boat when the
tilted-up outboard motor is steered.

Check that the trim meter, on the boat’s
gauge, displays full down when the out-
board motor is in the full-down position.
