Trouble recovery
142
If the boat battery runs down, the engines can
be started in an emergency using a 12-volt
booster battery and jumper cables.
To connect the jumper cables:
(1) Connect the positive (+) terminal of the
dead battery to the positive (+) terminal of
the booster battery with the positive (+)
jumper cable.
(2) Connect one end of the negative (–)
jumper cable to the negative (–) terminal
of the booster battery.
(3) Connect the other end of the negative (–)
jumper cable to an engine hanger.
NOTICE: Be sure all connections are
secure and correct before attempting
to start the engine. Any wrong con-
nection may damage the electrical
system.

(4) Start the engine, and then disconnect the
jumper cables by reversing the above
steps. NOTICE: Do not turn the main
switch key for more than 5 seconds. If
the engine does not start in 5 seconds,
release the main switch key and try
again after 15 seconds. Continuous
cranking for more than 5 seconds will
discharge the battery and the engine
will not start. The starter motor may
also be damaged if they are engaged
continuously for more than 5 sec-
onds.
Fuse replacement
WARNING
Do not use fuses of a higher amperage
than recommended. Substitution with a
fuse that has an improper rating can cause
extensive electrical system damage and
possible fire.
If a fuse is blown, replace it with the proper
fuse.
To replace a fuse:
(1) Open the engine hood. (See page 60.)
(2) While pushing both sides of the fuse box
cover inward, pull the cover toward the
bow and remove it.
