Alignment
SHIFT/WIDTH Knob Zero (Center) Adjustment
Set the (Main & Sub) SHIFT/WIDTH knobs to the
12-o’clock position.
Set the (Main & Sub) operating mode to “USB.”
Press and hold in the [ANT1], [ANT3], and [RX
ANT] keys, while turning the radio on, to enter
the alignment mode.
Rotate the Main Dial knob to select the alignment
parameter “02A.”
Rotate the CLAR/VFO-B knob so that the IF
SHIFT frequency of the MAIN Band (VFO-A) is
set to ±0.00 on the TFT (D version) or LCD (MP/
Contest versions) display. The center point (±0.00)
is broad (7 points: D/MP versions, 18 points: Con-
test version). Therefore, set the CLAR/VFO-B
knob to the center of this broad range.
In the D and MP versions, rotate the Main Dial
knob to select the alignment parameter “02b,”
then rotate the CLAR/VFO-B knob so that the IF
SHIFT frequency of the Sub Band (VFO-B) is ±0.00
on the TFT display. The center point (±0.00) is
broad (7 points). Therefore, set the CLAR/VFO-
B knob to the center of this broad range.
Rotate the Main Dial knob to select the alignment
parameter “02c.”
Rotate the CLAR/VFO-B knob so that the IF Band-
width of the MAIN Band (VFO-A) is 2.40 kHz on
the TFT (D version) or the LCD display.
In the D and MP versions, rotate the Main Dial
knob to select the alignment parameter “02d.”
Rotate the CLAR/VFO-B knob so that the IF Band-
width of the SUB Band (VFO-B) is 2.40 kHz on
the TFT display.
Press and hold in the [MNU] key for 2 seconds
to exit from the alignment mode.
VDD Meter Adjustment
On the D/Contest versions, connect the DC volt-
meter to J7506 on the PA-B Unit. On the MP ver-
sion, connect the DC voltmeter to J4007 or J4008
on the PA-A Unit.
Press and hold in the [ANT1], [ANT3], and [RX
ANT] keys, while turning the radio on, to enter
the alignment mode.
Rotate the Main Dial knob to select the alignment
parameter “03.”
Rotate the CLAR/VFO-B knob so that VDD meter
(Sub S-meter) reading is same as that on the DC
voltmeter.
On the Contest/MP versions, rotate the NOTCH
knob so that VDD/BIAS meter reading is same
as that on the DC voltmeter, then press the [ENT]
key to save the new setting.
Press and hold in the [MNU] key for 2 seconds
to exit from the alignment mode.
OXCO Adjustment
Important Note
: (1) Do not adjust the OXCO Unit
unless you have a high-performance frequency
counter. (2) Perform the adjustment after aging the
transceiver and frequency counter sufficiently (at
least 30 minutes).
Connect the frequency counter to J3502 on the
REF Unit.
Adjust VR3501 on the REF Unit for 10.0000000
MHz (±0.1 Hz) on the Frequency counter.
Verify the alignment by receiving a standard time
station like WWV or JJY (5.000/10.000/15.000
MHz, etc.); listen 500 Hz low on USB, and 500
Hz high on LSB, to be sure the tones associated
with the carrier are precisely the same.
