I/O and Cabling Considerations

Modular Splitters
A modular splitter is a rack-mount distribution panel that fans out to eight 6-pin ports through
RJ-12 jacks as shown in Figure 3-15. The splitter has 3 groups of 8 ports as shown and requires
three 50-pin extension cables. A modular splitter works best with a 50-pin female bottom-entry
extension cable. A single 8-port splitter requiring one 50-pin input is also available.
Modular splitter applications include: office drops, MOD-TAP™ and DECconnect™ wiring.

Modular Cables and Connectors
Xyplex can supply the following modular items for wiring from a splitter to your devices:
• 6-wire cable 7.62 m (25')
• SYS Connector, Blue and Grey (MOD-TAP #060988-523-30)
• DROP Connector, White and Grey (MOD-TAP #06-988-260-20)
Other cabling options (not available from Xyplex) include:
• SYS Adaptor, female RJ-12 to male DB-25, Blue and Grey (MOD-TAP #06-888-523-30)
• DROP Adaptor, female RJ-12 to male DB-25, White and Grey (MOD-TAP #06-888-260-20)
Standard Xyplex-supplied cabling items allow you to connect to any serial device which uses a
male or female DB-25 connector. All that is required is the modular cable, and the correct
modular adaptor (male or female DB-25 connector), which is essentially an RJ-12-to-DB25
