Introduction
1.1
Background
HDCVI is the abbreviation of High Definition Composite Video Interface. This standard developed by Dahua
Technology enables transfer of high definition video using common coaxial cables. This way, HDCVI is
particularly suitable to upgrade existing video monitoring systems at low effort using the existing
infrastructure. Even in complex installations with long transmission distances of up to 500 metres, existing
analogue cameras can be replaced by high-resolution analogue cameras without having to install new
cabling. In addition to video signals also control commands (RS485) as well as audio data can be
transferred.
Dahua HDCVI Encoders receive the incoming analogue signals and convert them into digital data streams.
This Technical Product Information describes an example of a connection of analogue HDCVI cameras to a
HeiTel device using a Dahua DHIHCVR7216AN-4M.
1.2
Prerequisites
The following hardware and software are required for operation of a Dahua HDCVI Encoder:
One of the HeiTel devices listed above, with up-to-date firmware
For video systems with older firmware versions a firmware update must be carried out first.
CamControl LITE software or CamControl PRO software in up-to-date version. In this document, the
settings are described using the CamControl LITE software as an example.
Dahua HDCVI Encoder without hard disk, e.g. DHIHCVR7216AN-4M with the desired number of
cameras connected. Refer to 2 or to the Dahua device documentation.
Analogue standard or HDCVI cameras, connected to the Dahua device

Overview
In order to set up the configuration of the individual cameras described in chapter
“Camera configuration in
CamControl LITE
” an operable connection between CamControl LITE configuration software and the
cameras of the Dahua device must be established. The following illustration shows an overview of the signal
path:
The different cameras are connected to the Dahua device via coaxial cables. The coaxial cables are
used to transfer video signals but also control commands (e.g. PTZ) and audio signals.
