Replace Paper Feed Roller Kit
In this exercise, you will remove and then install the printer’s three paper feed rollers, which pick
paper from the universal media tray.
Frequent jams at the media trays (E1 - E5) may be caused by dirty or worn paper feed rollers.
Before replacing the rollers, ensure the media in use is supported. If jams persist when using
supported media, replace the rollers by installing a paper feed roller kit.
1.
To remove the three feed rollers, remove the duplex unit (if installed) and Tray 1 from
the printer.
2.
Release the locking tab on the front end of the lower feed roller.
3.
Slide the roller to the front and remove it.
4.
Release the locking tab on the front end of the left-most roller.
5.
Slide the roller to the front and remove it.
6.
Release the locking lever on the front of the remaining (right) roller.
7.
Slide the roller to the front and remove it from the shaft.
8.
Install the three rollers. Rotate the rollers so the flat side of the “D” faces up to snap
them onto the mounting shafts.
Read troubleshooting charts
Read the troubleshooting charts at the end of this worksheet for solutions to chronic jam problems
at each location in the paper path.
When paper dust or debris is visible on the printer’s paper feed rollers,
paper jams may occur more frequently. Clean the rollers using rollers a
dry,
lint-free cloth.
When removing and installing the rollers, be careful to avoid dislodging or
removing the white roller clutches from the shaft. The clutches are one way
bearing clutches which will not work if installed incorrectly.
