RAP 6.2: PC Connectivity
This RAP test the communication
between the WorkCentre’s parallel port
(Centronics) and the PC.
1. Check the cable from main board
connector CN7 (the Centronics
port) to the customer’s PC. Check
the following:
•
The cable must be an IEEE
1284 compliant cable no
longer than 25 feet.
•
The cable must be securely
connected to the WorkCentre
Centronics port and the
customer’s PC parallel port.
•
The connection must be a
direct connection, i.e., not
routed through a switch box or
other device.
2. Power on the WorkCentre.
3. At the customer’s PC, exit Windows
to DOS.
4. At the customer’s DOS system
prompt, type the following:
copy con lpt1: <return>
Testing 1234 <return>
<Ctrl-Z>
Result:Text “Testing 1234” prints
on the WorkCentre?
No:
Recheck the parallel cable and cable
connections. Replace the cable with a
known good cable. If this does not fix
the problem, replace the main circuit
board (REP 5.1.2: Main Board on page 4-39).
