Freedom SW 230V Installation Guide
Planning Preparations
DC Cabling
Definition
DC cabling includes all of the cables and
connectors between the batteries, the DC disconnect and
overcurrent protection device, and the inverter/charger.
Type
All installations require multi-strand insulated cables.
The DC cables must be copper and must be rated 75°C
minimum.
Size and Length
See Table 2 for required DC cable length
and cable size and Table 3 for required fuse size for the
Freedom SW 230V. Wire size is usually marked on the
cables.
DC Disconnects and Over-Current Devices
The DC circuit from the battery to the inverter/charger must
be equipped with a disconnect and overcurrent protection
device. Refer to your applicable installation code for
guidance.
Type
This device usually consists of a circuit breaker, a “fused-
disconnect,” or a separate fuse and DC disconnect. Do not confuse
AC circuit breakers with DC circuit breakers. They are not
interchangeable.
Rating
The rating of the fuse or breaker must be matched to
the size of cables used in accordance with the applicable
installation codes.
Location
The breaker or fuse and disconnect should be
located as close as possible to the battery in the positive cable.
Applicable codes may limit how far the protection can be
from the battery.

IMPORTANT:
Longer cables may cause the inverter to shut down under a
heavy load.
FIRE HAZARD
Undersized cables will overheat. Consult local electrical codes to
determine minimum required size.
Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or serious injury.
