5. PLACING THE HEAD ON THE TRACK
At this point, most of the sawmill head bolts should only be hand tight. They will be
fully tightened when the head is on the track and has settled in to a true and square
state. There are two methods in which the sawmill head can be lifted onto the track assembly:
METHOD 1
If a tractor or forklift is available, the head can be lifted onto the track with a lifting strap or chain
with a minimum rating of 1000 lb. [450 kg]. Attach the lifting strap/chain to the lifting eyes, raise
the head up, and rest it on the track so that the grooves in the carriage wheels fit around the
track rails. Two people are recommended for this procedure.
