Chapter 3
– Displays and Operating Modes
Initialization Mode
Initialization mode allows you make settings that control the operation of SmartPAC PRO Servo with
any tool. (Settings for individual tools are made in Program mode–see Chapter 5.) Initialization mode
is used extensively when you install a new SmartPAC PRO Servo, but you will likely use it only
occasionally after SmartPAC PRO Servo is set up and the press is running.
See Chapter 4 for detailed instructions on how to use SmartPAC PRO Servo in Initialization mode.
Program Mode
Program mode allows you to create, copy, modify and delete tool settings as well as enable or disable
sensors. The Main Program Screen is shown in Figure 3-2.
See Chapter 5, page 105 for detailed instructions on how to use SmartPAC PRO Servo in Program
mode.
Run Mode
Run mode is the mode you use to run the press. The Main Run Menu, shown in Figure 3-2, displays
the rotation of the crankshaft on a crank angle clock diagram in the lower left corner of the display.
When the press is running in Continuous mode, the press speed in strokes per minute is displayed in
the center of the clock diagram. When the press is stopped or running in Inch or Single-stroke, the
crankshaft angle is displayed inside the clock.
If security access settings in Initialization mode permit, you may be able to make adjustments to
programmed settings in Run mode, such as changes to die protection settings, cam timing, etc. See
Chapter 6, page 159, for detailed instructions on how to use SmartPAC PRO in the Run mode.
On-Screen Data Entry
SmartPAC PRO Servo features a touch screen with on-screen buttons to enable you to navigate
through its menus and make setting for your tools. In addition, SmartPAC PRO utilizes several
different on-screen keypads for entering alpha-numeric data or to navigate through certain “legacy”
screens using cursor (arrow) “keys”. These keypads are described below.
NOTICE
You may plug a USB keyboard into the USB port on the front panel of the SmartPAC PRO. When
entering alphanumeric data, the SmartPAC PRO will automatically recognize keystrokes from both
the external and on-screen keyboards
On-Screen Numeric Keypad
Whenever you select a field that requires numbers only, SmartPAC PRO Servo displays a numeric
keypad, Figure 3-3.
