Prepare the Fuel System
1.1
Diesel Operation
1) See
2) Set the three-way valve (16) in the suction line of the low pressure feed
pump (19) to let diesel oil flow from the daily tank (6) to the pump and to the
mixing unit (21).
3) Make sure that the shut-off valves upstream and downstream of the engine are
open.
4) Start the pumps (19) and (22).
5) Drain the daily tanks and the mixing unit.
6) Use the pressure regulating valve (17) to set the pressure in the fuel system.
Note: When the engine operates with diesel oil (and low fuel temperature) a
small over-pressure is sufficient. If a change-over to heavy fuel oil is
necessary, the setting of the usual pressure is recommended from the
start.
7) Use the pressure retaining valve (27) to set the fuel pressure at the fuel pump
inlet (see
1.2
Heavy Fuel Operation
1) See
Note: The fuel system is not ready for operation until the heavy fuel upstream
of the fuel pumps is at the necessary temperature (see
,
paragraph 3.1 Viscosity-Temperature Diagram).
After a shut-down period of more than 24 hours heat the high pressure circuit on the
engine for a minimum of four to six hours. Do not try to start the engine on heavy fuel
before you heat the fuel.
2) Set to on all heaters in the HFO system.
3) Set to on the heating for the fuel system on the engine (fuel rail 3.05 (13), HP fuel
pipes 3.29 (8) and the fuel leakage system (see
4) Do a check of the steam pipes to make sure they are tight. If leaks are found,
they must be repaired before the first commissioning or after maintenance on the
fuel system.
5) Set the three-way valve (16) in the suction line of the low pressure feed
pump (19) so that HFO flows from the daily tank (3) to the feed pump (19) and
the mixing unit (20).
6) Drain the settling tank, daily tanks and mixing unit.
7) Make sure that the shut-off valves upstream and downstream of the engine are
open.
8) Start the pumps (19) and (22).
9) Heat the HFO. This is necessary to get the HFO to the necessary viscosity (see
Change-over from Diesel Oil to Heavy Fuel Oil).
10) Use the pressure regulating valve (17) to set the pressure in the fuel system.
11) Use the pressure retaining valve (27) to set the fuel pressure at the fuel pump
inlet (see
