Stage 1: In Preparation
1. Before beginning work, ensure that the vehicle:
a. is properly parked in an outdoor shop area with park brake on, engine off,
b. is not on sloped ground that can cause any depleting LNG to flow uncontrollably downhill,
c. is not directly over any sewage or storm drains that depleting LNG may flow into (natural
gas trapped in storm drains may form an explosive combustion mixture with air), and
d. is cordoned off with cones or equivalent warning signs to prevent other workers from
inadvertently approaching the vehicle while it is draining.
2. Confirm that the Fuel Level Transducer is LSSC type by referring to Stage 1, Step 1 of Westport
Work Instruction INS-10014508 Calibrating a “Canditioner” Type Fuel Level Transducer.
WARNING
Failure to properly drain the LNG tank(s) may lead to natural gas leakage and severe cryogenic
burns. Wear appropriate safety equipment at all times.
Stage 2: Calibration Low
3. Drain the LNG tank or tanks in accordance with Westport Work Instruction INS-10011871
Draining the LNG Tank
4. Ensure tank vent-to-STN, vent-to-ATM and liquid drain valves are all closed.
5. If the inner vessel of the tank has been exposed to atmospheric conditions for an extended
period of time, refer to “Stage 2: Evacuating Natural Gas from Tank” of Westport Work
Instruction INS-10012142 Purging the LNG Tank with Inert Gas to vacuum the inner tank vessel.
6. Connect the LNG LSSC Calibration Tool to the LNG tank harness service calibration port
(Figures 1 & 2).
7. Insert the key into the ignition and turn to the ON position. Do not start the truck.
8. Press the Calibrate LOW button once on the LNG LSSC Calibration Tool (Figure 1). The
calibration LED should flash once.
9. Wait at least 3 minutes before proceeding to the next step.
