The Hedge Trimmer
Working with the Hedge Trimmer
Before cutting bushes, scrubs or hedges, remove thick branches or similar
material. Cut them out with the pole saw.
Make sure that there are no small animals hidden in the bushes or
hedges.
There are different cutting techniques and certain seasons to be observed
when trimming hedges or bushes. For detailed information see appropriate
technical literature.
Please note the local rest periods when working with the hedge trimmer in
order to avoid disturbances.
Please also not that is may not be legal to trim hedges year round in your
area for the protection of animals.
Before cutting, inspect the area that the hedge trimmer will be used in.
Make sure not to touch hard objects such fences, poles, stones etc. This
may cause damages to the cutting bar.
If the hedge trimmer becomes jammed, never attempt to remove cut
material from the blade bar while the engine is running. First stop the
engine and then carefully remove the obstruction.
Do not press down the hedge trimmer while cutting. Always avoid
overloading the engine. Do not try to cut thick branches or to force the
blade bar through the surface to be cut.
The cutting bar can be tilted. Press both locking levers (12) on the angle drive
simultaneously to tilt the cutting bar to e.g. cut flat on the ground or at an
angle. Tilt the cutting bar only if the engine is turned off or the hedge trimmer
attachment is separated from the motor unit.
Always run the engine on full throttle when using the hedge trimmer.
NOTICE: After shutting down the engine the blades of the cutting bar may not
immediately come to a standstill. Always wait for the blades to stop moving
before setting the unit down.
Hints on Trimming Hedges
If a hedge has to be cut back very substantially, trim the hedge in two
passes.
First cut the hedge to the desired height and stretch a string along the
hedge at the desired height. Guide the blades of the hedge trimmer at an
