3.3.1 Replacing 3.5 inch drives

3.3.1.1 Drive replacement guidelines
When replacing drives, do not:
• Install 12 TB drives into slots that held 10 TB drives.
• Mix 12 TB drives and 10 TB drives in the same storage column.
3.3.1.2 Removing a 3.5 inch drive
To remove a 3.5 inch drive:
1. If you are replacing a faulty drive, locate the drive and verify that is in the
Decommissioned
state.
Important:
The replacement drive must be the same model as the drive that you
are replacing. Also, the disk must be completely empty, with no data and no
partition table.
Important:
If you are removing drives as part of System or Storage Node
replacement, skip steps a through f.
a. On the
UniverStor SM Dashboard
,
click the
Resources
tab.
b. In the system image on the resources page, click the node with the faulty drive. The node will
have an alert icon, and the node status page will appear.
c. Scroll down the page to the components lists and click the tab for HDDs or SSDs depending on
which type of drive has failed.
d. Look through the list of drives and locate the faulty drive. The status column for the drive will
read
Degraded
,
Decommissioning
, or
Decommissioned
.
Note:

UniverStor OS
Administrator Guide.
• If the status is
Degraded
, the drive has displayed problematic behavior and will undergo
automatic repair. If the problematic behavior continues, the drive will be decommissioned.
