Operation and Maintenance Manual
of WP12C Series Marine Diesel Engine
3.3 Routine Maintenance of Diesel Engine
3.3.1 When diesel engine is in operation, pay attention to oil temperature, oil
pressure, diesel engine outlet water temperature
ˈ
check the oil, water, air
for leakage
ˈ
if any abnormal case occur
ˈ
find out the causes immediately
and remedy failures timely.
3.3.2 After diesel engine shutdown, check the quantity of fuel, fresh water
coolant, oil
ˈ
if it is insufficient , fill it to a specified quantity.
3.3.3 Drain water out from the fuel filter of the first stage.
3.3.4 Check the tension of drive belt
ˈ
if necessary, conduct the adjustment.
3.3.5 If the environmental temperature is lower than 0? and no anti-freeze
additive is used in coolant, it is necessary to completely drain the cooling
water to prevent damage to engine due to freezing.
3.4. Maintenance and Service of Diesel Engine during Long-
term Storage
3.4.1 Preservation method
Fill the lubrication system anti-corrosive agent into lubricating oil
ˈ
conduct pre-start preparation according to the normal running of diesel
engine
ˈ
start and run the engine for 5

diesel to run
ˈ
and use a high pressure gun with inlet and exhaust pipe
preservation oil to spray the preservation oil to supercharger air inlet
ˈ
until
exhaust pipe or supercharger exhaust discharges oil mist for 15S. Remove
the preservation oil pipeline
ˈ
use plastic caps to close all the exposed pipe
openings. Apply anti-corrosion oil to all the unpainted surface of diesel
engine (except for diesel engine monitor instrument, rubber hose and diesel
engine warning plate). Wrap diesel engine with plastic bags, and place the
engine in a ventilated and dry room.
