for the WattAge Park Flyer PF-12 Charger
Thank you for choosing the PF-12 by
Wattage. This charger is designed for
packs from 150 mah to 2000 mah, 4.8V
to 14.4V. During the charge mode, the
PF-12 produces a linear charge with an
adjustable output between .250 and 2.0
amperes. After the battery reaches its
peak charge, the PF-12 switches to the
trickle charge mode where the PF-12
charges at a fixed rate of 1/10 the rate of
the current setting. To protect your in-
vestment, the PF-12 includes an internal
cooling fan to keep the charger’s tem-
perature down extending the charger’s
life. The PF-12 will peak charge almost
all commonly used Ni-Cad and Ni-Mh
batteries used in Park Fliers today.
Warnings and Cautions.
1. Never leave the charger unattended when in use.
2. Do not allow the 12V DC input leads to touch
(short out).
3. Do not place the charger or the battery being
charged inside your full size car or other vehicle
when charging.
4. Do not set the charger on carpet or other cloth
surfaces when in use. This will interfere with the
fan and make the charger fail.
5. Do not connect the 110V A/C input and the 12V
D/C input to a power source at the same time.
6. Never charge a “hot” battery. Charging a hot
battery can result in battery failure and possibly ex-
plosion. Always let the battery cool before charg-
ing.
7. If the battery or charger becomes excessively
hot, immediately disconnect the charger from the
power source and allow the parts to cool before
handling.
8. Do not short-circuit the output leads.
9. Battery damage can occur if the amperage rate
is set too high. Follow the chart and the
manufacturer’s instructions to prevent battery dam-
age.
10. Always check the battery’s polarity and condi-
tion before connecting it to the charger.
11. The PF-12 is designed to charge 4 to 12 cell
(4.8V to 14.4V) battery packs only.
12. If using the PF-12 to peak charge a radio trans-
mitter battery, the battery must be removed from
the transmitter before charging. Do NOT peak
charge a transmitter battery through the radio’s
charge jack.
13. The PF-12 is designed to charge nickel cad-
mium or nickel metal hydride batteries only. Do
NOT attempt to charge Alkaline, Dry Cells, Gel
Cells, Lead Acid, Lithium, or other batteries with
this charger. Damage, fire, and/or injury will re-
sult.
14. Double check all leads and adaptors for short-
circuits, open circuits, and contacts for dirty (oxi-
dized) surfaces. Faulty leads will result in poor re-
sults and/or damage.
Quick Steps
Familiarize yourself with all parts of the charger
before using.
1.
Read the Warnings Section.
2. Connect the charger to a power source (ei-
ther 12V DC or 110V AC).
3. Set the Current to the low setting (counter
clockwise).
4. Connect the battery pack (Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh
only) to the charger. If the battery is hot, let it
cool before charging.
5. Select the Ni-Cad or Ni-Mh switch appropri-
ate for the battery being charged, and adjust
the Current Setting to a charge rate suitable for
the battery.
6. Press the start button. The Charge light will
glow solid during the peak charge.
7. Charge time will vary depending on the am-
perage selected and the size of the battery pack.
