Maintenance procedures
This section provides the maintenance guidelines and procedures necessary to maintain the
mass spectrometer's performance.
Keep to a maintenance schedule, and perform maintenance as required and described in this
section.
4.1 Maintenance schedule
The following table lists periodic maintenance schedules that ensure optimum instrument
performance.

Clean the instrument case. As required. See Cleaning the instrument

Empty the nitrogen exhaust
trap bottle. Check daily, empty as required. See Emptying the nitrogen
exhaust trap bottle .
Clean the source
components. When source components are
visibly fouled, the background or
high-peak contaminants are
unacceptably high, or sensitivity
decreases to unacceptable levels. See Cleaning the source
components .
Replace the ESI probe tip. When sensitivity decreases to
unacceptable levels, or if blocked
or damaged. See Replacing the ESI probe
tip and gasket .
Replace the probe
assembly. When sensitivity decreases to
unacceptable levels or signal is
unstable due to inconsistent
sample flow. See Replacing the probe
assembly .
Clean the APCI probe tip.
(Options using the APCI
probe adaptor only.) When sensitivity decreases to
unacceptable levels or when
significant chemical interference
is present. See Cleaning the APCI probe
tip .
