Connecting Ethernet cables
Requirement:
Use shielded network cables with the mass spectrometer to
ensure compliance with FCC limits.
To make Ethernet connections
1. Connect one end of one shielded Ethernet cable to the network switch,
and then connect the other end to the Ethernet card on the
preconfigured ACQUITY
®
workstation.
Tip:
On preconfigured systems, the Ethernet card is identified as the
Instrument LAN card.
2. Connect one end of the other shielded Ethernet cable to the back of the
mass spectrometer, and then connect the other end to the network
switch.
Input/output signal connectors
Two removable connectors (designated External Connections 1and External
Connections 2) are on the mass spectrometer’s rear panel; these connectors
hold the screw terminals for input/output signals. The connectors are keyed so
that they can receive a signal cable inserted only one way.
Warning:
To avoid electric shock, all electrical connections to the rear
panel must be separated from hazardous voltages by double or
reinforced insulation. Circuits of this type are classified as safety extra
low voltage (SELV). Examples of circuits that are typically SELV
include contact closure inputs and outputs for auto-samplers, and UV,
RI, and fluorescence mass spectrometer signal outputs for LC/MS
systems. The electrical connections on the rear panel of this mass
spectrometer are all SELV.
Caution:
To avoid damaging the instrument,
• never apply a voltage to the Analog (out) connectors; these are
active connections driven by the instrument.
• do not apply voltages higher than those shown in the tables on
