To connect a configuration with column-selection valve:
1.
Using the 1/4-inch open-end wrench, connect the 71.1-cm (28-inch) tubing assembly (T1)
to port 6 of the sample manager injection valve and the inlet port of the column-selection
valve. (Refer to the connection diagram for valve port locations.)
Important:
Ensure that you install the long, flat fitting into the column-selection valve port,
rather than into the sample manager's injection valve port.
2.
Connect the long, flat fitting of a 61-cm (24-inch) tubing assembly (T2) to port 1 (IN) on the
column-selection valve, and the other end (knurled SST fitting) to the inlet of a column.
3.
Using the tubing cutter, cut a sufficient length of PEEK tubing for connecting the outlet of
the first column to the column-selection valve.
Tip:
The length of PEEK tubing that is sufficient for connecting the outlet of the column to
the column-selection valve varies according to the length of the column used.
4.
Using the 10-32 PEEK nut and PEEK ferrule, install one end of the tubing into the column
outlet, and the other end into Port 1 (OUT) of the column-selection valve using a long, flat
compression screw and 2-piece stainless steel ferrule.
5.
For additional columns, repeat steps 2 through 4, ensuring that the inlet-port number of the
column-selection valve matches the outlet-port number.
6.
Cut a section of PEEK tubing and, using a 10-32 PEEK nut and PEEK ferrule, connect it
from the outlet port of the column-selection valve to the inlet tubing of the detector,
according to the instructions in the detector's overview and maintenance guide.
7.
Route the tubing according to the instructions in the "Routing column-compartment tubing"
section.
2.5.4 Installing columns in the column compartment
Columns are secured inside the compartment using adjustable clips on the column rails. The
column clips, which are designed to hold onto the exposed area between the end of the column
and the head of the compression screw, are adaptable for securing columns from multiple
vendors. You can easily reposition the column clips to fit different-sized columns.
Before removing or installing columns, heed these warnings:
Warning:
To prevent burn injuries, set the column temperature to Off, and then allow
the column compartment and its components to cool for 60 minutes before touching
them. Monitor the column compartment's internal temperature to ensure that all
components are cool.
Warning:
Observe Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) at all times, particularly when
working with hazardous materials. Consult the Material Safety Data Sheets regarding
the solvents you use. Additionally, consult the safety representative for your
organization regarding its protocols for handling such materials.
