ELAC LAZ 5200 – Operating Instructions
Installation
Fig. 4.1: Earthing
1. The earth connection requires clean metallic surfaces. If necessary, remove any
paint or other non-conductive materials from the earthing terminal.
2. Wipe all mounting surfaces with residue-free cleaning solution to ensure that these
are clean and free from paint flakes, metal chips and other residues.
3. Apply a thin film of lubricant with corrosion inhibiting properties (e.g. zinc dust/Vase-
line mixture) to the cleaned area of the mounting surfaces and the threads of all parts
(nuts and bolts).
4. Clip earthing cable clamp
to earthing stud
on the clean metal surface
.
5. Place washer
onto the earthing stud.
6. Place spring lock washer
onto the earthing stud.
7. Screw hexagon nut
onto the earthing stud and tighten.
8. Measure the resistance between the housing of the unit and the PE conductor/ship’s
hull using a multimeter. It must not exceed 0.3 Ohm.
If the transducer cable is laid in a conduit, each individual conduit section must be earthed
at both ends.
Please contact the manufacturer if the demanded earthing measures cannot be applied.
Star earthing with busbars insulated from the ship’s hull is not permitted.
Earthing test:
The minimum cross-section of the earthing cable/earthing strap is 6 mm².
Earthing cables/straps are fitted with toothed lock washers at both ends.
The resistance between the housing of the unit and the PE conductor/ship’s hull is
≤
0.3
Ohm.
