5.2 Size PTO Shaft Length
IMPORTANT! The PTO shaft that came with your machine
may need to be shortened. A longer shaft is supplied
because tractor lift arms vary in length.
The PTO shaft must be free to telescope and not bottom
out when going through its working range. It should never
completely collapse in use. There should always be 2"
(50 mm) of space for retract.
If the shaft bottoms out, the bearings on both ends can be
overloaded and could fail causing damage or injury.
WARNING!
Avoid the risk of personal injury or machine
damage! Read the operator’s manual before
using this equipment. Carefully read all safety
messages in the manual and follow all safety
signs on the machine.

1.
Remove the PTO shaft and mount the attachment on the
tractor three-point hitch.
2.
Start the tractor and raise the three-point hitch up off the
ground until the machine's input shaft is level with the
tractor PTO output shaft.
This is the shortest distance
between the input and output shafts.
3.
Make sure tractor is shut off with parking brake applied.
4.
Pull the PTO shaft apart and place one end on the tractor
output
spline. Place the other on the implement
input

Illustrations show a winch; however, the method is
the same.

together. If the shafts are too long or there is not enough
room to do this, see
